Bonga is an artist known throughout the world. At 76 years old, he continues to pursue a career, to perform, to share a passion that has been with him since his youth. José Adelino Barcelo de Carvalho (real name), an artist of Angolan origin, recently received a compliment that made him earn money and new fans.
Indeed, at the beginning of May, Yann Barthès welcomed Will Smith on the set of “Quotidien”, a programme broadcast on the French channel TMC. The actor is promoting the film “Aladdin”, in which he plays the genie of the lamp and which is due to be released on 22 May 2019. As usual on “Quotidien”, the 50-year-old American actor shares part of his playlist. Among the favourite songs of the “Man in Black”, there is “Mona Ki Ngi Xica” by Bonga.
Will Smith explains to Yann Barthès that for him, this song “is really the perfect track for a calm and zen morning”. A few notes and a statement from the actor were enough to propel this
to propel this ballad to the top of the sales charts on Itunes in France. Indeed, a few days later, two versions of the song were ranked 10th and 14th in the downloads. Not bad for a song released in 1972.
The “Best of Bonga” compilation, meanwhile, reached number 16 in the iTunes Top, while the album “Angola 72-74” entered at number 119. That’s the Will Smith effect!
Bonga was in concert in France on 23 May. With 31 albums to his credit, the Angolan star still has a lot to give and receive.
