Alicia Keys was in Senegal at the end of May 2019. The pop princess was accompanied by supermodel Naomi Campbell and her husband Swizz Beatz. All three came to support their friend, the American painter Kehinde Wiley, who inaugurated, a few days ago, the “Black rock Senegal”.

This is a residency that aims to bring together musicians, filmmakers, painters and any other artist with the aim of forging a link with Africa by creating new works. It is located in the traditional village of Yoff in the northwestern part of Dakar.

“I personally wanted to create a working space in West Africa. Black Rock is a direct response to my desire to have an undisputed relationship with Africa, filling a big void that I share with many African Americans,” said Kehinde Wiley, famous for her portraits of Michael Jackson and Barack Obama.

In any case, the inauguration of the “Black Rock Senegal” made a big noise with the presence of Alicia Keys and Naomi Campbell. The latter took advantage of the trip to celebrate her 49th birthday in Gorée. In addition, Kehinde Wiley’s five-star guests visited schools, cooperatives, etc. They were received by the President of the Republic of Senegal, Macky Sall.
