The cancelled Nuits d’Afrique music festival will pay tribute to the Malian artist Salif Keita. The Prix Nuits d’Afrique pour la Francophonie will be awarded to him during a ceremony scheduled for 10 July at Montreal City Hall.

Created in 2016, during the 30th anniversary of the festival, the Nuits d’Afrique Prize for the Francophonie is awarded to an artist of international renown who embodies a unifying vision of the Francophonie. This prize also highlights the universal values of peace, cooperation and sustainable development promoted by the festival and its founder, Lamine Touré.

Also, on 10 July, the talent and humanitarian commitment of Salif Keita will be praised. The Malian singer is no less than one of the greatest representatives of African music on the planet, whose career spans five decades.

He will therefore be on stage in Canada to celebrate his 50 years of career during the grand opening concert of the 33rd edition of the Nuits d’Afrique International Festival on 11 July 2019.
