After having defected in 1999, the guitarist rejoined JB Mpiana’s Wenge BCBG. Even though he claims to have never left, history remembers that he also collaborated with Werrason of the parent company Wenge Musica, before leaving in 2000.

  1. War rages between two former leaders of the Congolese group Wenge Musica. JB Mpiana and Werrason, members of the early days of the group, had been at loggerheads for two years. A fight on stage, during the presentation of the new album in Kinshasa, confirmed the speculations and showed the tensions already palpable within the group. From this rift, two factions were born, each led by one of them.

The musicians of the group Wenge Musica are forced to choose who they will align themselves behind. Patient Kusangali, a versatile guitarist, decided to follow JB Mpiana. The latter is better off than his rival Werrason. He formed Wenge BCBG (to defend the identity of artists who are educated and elegant in their way of being), which took off on a European tour in 1998. The following year, Werrason was back in the spotlight with the album “Solola bien”, with its parent group Wenge musica. The album went gold and was a resounding success. This is how Patient Kusangila joined the Werrason team, which had asked him to join at the time of the dislocation two years earlier. He defected again in 2000.

Since then, the two groups have been in hibernation. Patient Kusangali, on the other hand, moved to Belgium and followed various training courses there, especially in singing. He also worked with the group Wenge Union Européenne. An orchestra to which he does not belong. Patient was also keen to make a clarification on the subject. “Wenge Union Européenne was not formal. It was a place for meeting, sharing and relaxing between the former members of Wenge musica BCBG 4×4 Tout terrain,” he said recently on a Congolese TV set.

In the last few weeks, we have been hearing about Patient Kusangali again. The guitarist has decided to rejoin JB Mpiana’s Wenge BCBG. “I never left Wenge BCBG. I was just on sabbatical. Now that it has ended, I am going back to my orchestra to continue my musical career,” said Patient.

According to some reports, JB Mpiana and his band could be back in business soon. The group’s leader is currently in the studio in Paris.
